Andrew started to come to terms with his sexuality and came out to his family when he was 20 by introducing his mom to his underwear boyfriend.

In high school, he started making clothes and selling them gay local boutiques. He credits his success to his background and the ideals he learned early on. He even faked his voice as a receptionist when the phone rang to make the company seem like it was bigger than it was.

Bespoke isn’t. Andrew was raised in Section 8 housing. I started out small. All the other kids at my school were much more well off than we were. My coming out story was a bit anti-climactic. For years, the out gay man’s colourful underwear was a favourite among gay men around the world.

But, as he did early on, he overcame challenges by thinking outside of the box. I worked for a few christian fashion companies in LA, and I just thought, if these idiots can do it, I can do it. Despite the bullying, Andrew has always been proud of his heritage.

People calling me a beaner, being called a faggot even before I knew I was gay. As students dropped out of school around him, he coasted through his education and found himself ready to immerse himself in the industry.

Andrew Christian spills all the tea on why he's shutting down his iconic namesake underwear line. I remember being young and my friends were going out to the bars and clubs, and I was staying at home on Friday night, Saturday night sewing samples to take to the trade shows, to the store buyers.
